i need to force myself to use something other than a palette knife. it's too much fun. enjoying being able to work on a painting for 2 sessions, though.

hey hey.. haven't posted in a while, here's a couple studies from this past saturday morning..

oil sketches

some oil sketches.. working on techniques, speed and simplifying color.

dandelion greens with an orange (abo 2 hours) oil on paper


plein air.. hose on a concrete building (abo 1 hour) oil on linen panel


while i was painting this one at the cement factory, i thought i was alone. until an 18-wheeler truck parked in the lot. i thought they were going to kick me out for sure. suddenly, a person came out of the truck, holding some papers and ran toward me. out of the corner of my eye, i saw it wasn't a burly truck driver, no! it was the truck driver's cute little daughter, she asked if i knew the way to the Fiber Company. (i'd passed there earlier) "actually, i passed it on the way" i told her, and gave her directions. she smiles, says thanks and scuttles away.. and i go back to painting.

here's a couple figure paintings from aug 3 and 10, of the same figure. i was planning on reworking the bottom painting the second week, but got discouraged and painted a new one instead.

(was shocking to take the bottom painting into Photoshop and hit 'auto levels' and the painting looked a million times better. better luck next time!)
